They ask why they never saw me work.

I answer:
Because I started young,
and I learned early that money comes and goes~
and the day it stays
is the day I rest.
I worked jobs that ripped me off.
I worked a job I had to sue.
I worked places that wanted me to accept being cheated
and then fight just to get what was already mine.
I worked jobs where I was sexually harassed.
Jobs where silence was safer than truth.
I was the one who walked away from what I refused to tolerate.
I was the one who knew if I spoke,
it wouldn’t be my truth they believed anyway.
I worked places where groups banded together to get me fired.
And when I spoke up,
I was still silenced.
They kept their positions.
I was labeled “the problem.”
What they never knew
was that the knowledge they used to improve their environment~
the ideas that made things better~
came from me.
Others got the credit.
My name was never spoken.
So when you ask how I did it~
here’s the truth:
While everyone thought I had nothing going on,
I was in the back catching side jobs.
Building quietly.
Starting my own businesses.
Some of them were taken from me.
Some were robbed.
Some I walked away from
because I didn’t want to be the boss.
Low key?
I already am. haha
